Logarithmic structures provide a formalism which helps to control degenerations in algebraic geometry. This is a report on work in progress, defining a novel notion of logarithmic structures in the general setting of E_2-algebras in the category of spectra. I will describe several aspects of the classical theory which we incorporate and generalize with this new framework and then will give a description of various aspects of the construction.
