What is... Bose-Einstein condensation?

Talk by Dr. Severin Schraven

Date: 05.05.20  Time: 16.30 - 17.30  Room: CANCELLED

In the 1920's Bose and Einstein predicted that dilute gases of bosons at very low temperatures exhibit a special state of matter, the so-called Bose-Einstein condensation, where almost all particles can be described by the same one-particle wave function. The aim of this talk is to give a mathematical formulation of this physics problem and give an overview over the known results. In addition, we will investigate the asymptotics of the low-energy excitation spectrum for systems with large number of particles.
