A finite semifield is a nonassociative division algebra over a finite field. Since they were first constructed by Dickson in 1905, they have been studied due to their connections to various topics; in finite geometry (spreads), in combinatorics (projective planes), in linear algebra and coding theory (MRD codes). In this talk we will give an overview of these connections, as well as the known constructions and classifications.
