I will briefly present the original idea of Ornstein and Zernike for obtaining sharp control over two point functions. Then, I will describe a general strategy to implement this idea in lattice spin models, highlighting the robust parts of the analysis and the ones that require model-specific arguments. I will finish with a quick survey of existing results in the field and open questions.
