Computer access during Zürich summer school

General:
There ist one account for all users. Every user should create his own personal working directory under this account and use only this one. After Zürich summer school the account will be deleted. Access to personal email can be done with ssh, telnet or netscape. Please don't use local email clients (pine, elm, mail, Netscape-Mail). Please don't change the password.

Password: please ask

Personal working directory:
Please create your personal working directory after your first login. A good idea for the name oft this directory is your name. Don't use free spaces or special characters also be aware of upper/lower case.

/home/rs1b/amath/zss $mkdirNAME¿

After creating, change to this new directory

/home/rs1b/amath/zss $cdNAME¿
/home/rs1b/amath/zss/NAME $

Text Editors:
emacs, xemacs, pico, vi

Compiler:
cc, gcc, f77, g77, xlp(Pascal)

Computer Rooms:

1. All computer rooms (floor L) of the Institute of Mathematik are located one floor beyond the seminar room. They are opened all days until 21:30
2. The easiest way to reach the Rechenzentrum is over the court yard on the right hand to building 11 (see map). The Please note the signs „Rechenzentrum“ to find the entry. The X-Terminal Room F52 is on the left hand of the entry and is open all days until 21:30.
3. The Room F08 (PC-Schulungsraum) is on the right hand of the entry and is open only on Thursday between 14:00 and 21:30.
4. The SUN Computer of the Institute of Mathematik does have a different home directory then the Rechenzentrum. After login on the SUNs, please do a connection to the Rechenzentrum with the command:
   ssh ziaix
5. First, the PC's have to be switched on. Then choose option 1. After a while windows has booted. Now you can double click on the programm zixdm. Further on, please read note 6.
6. On the X-Terminal you will see at first a „Choose server menu“. Choose zisp0204. At next step please login (Accountname and Password see above).
