Counting the points of a curve over extensions of a finite field doesn't determine the curve up to isomorphism, but rather, its Jacobian up to isogeny; this is analogous to the famous fact that you cannot "hear the shape of a drum". I will show how to remedy this by counting points in a weighted way (namely, using characters). This weighted point counting arises naturally from considering a dynamical system relating to geometric class field theory.
