The cyclic sieving phenomenon (CSP) refers to the observation that one
may sometimes learn about a cyclic action on a finite set X by
evaluating a natural q-analogue X(q) of |X| at roots of unity. It was
introduced by Reiner, Stanton and White.
I will talk about some methods for finding CSPs, including their
connection to the representation theory of general linear groups and
symmetric groups.
