About us

The Institute of Mathematics

carries out research and education of top international quality in all central areas of mathematics.
collaborates in research and education with scientists at leading universities worldwide.
offers attractive courses of study, with a modern curriculum, good staff/student ratio and a wide range of minor subjects.
promotes the application of mathematics in other areas through interdisciplinary research and education.

Consulting for university researchers:

Statistics: Prof. Dr. Reinhard Furrer.
Numerical analysis: Prof. Dr. Stefan Sauter.

The origins of the institute go back to the early 19th century. Today, it forms a part of the science faculty. The institute has an international outlook in research and education, and comprises 15 Professors, 74 Ph.D. students and postdocs and 200 students, secretarial staff, librarian and systems administrator.
