Overview of wiretap coding for physical layer security

In 1975, Aaron Wyner introduced the concept of the wiretap channel, and with it, the notion of physical layer security and wiretap coding. The wiretap channel model provides information-theoretical unconditional security under certain physical conditions of the transmission channel. From this point of view it is a preferred solution to computational security (based on an unproven difficulty of computing certain algorithms). This presentation introduces the concept of physical layer security and provides an overview of wiretap codes and the coset construction. It also describes the advantages and limitations of wiretap coding.
