Lifting nodal curves

It is known that nodal curves over a finite field can be lifted to characteristic zero while keeping the number of nodes fixed. We will see that such a lift can be effectively approximated using an iterated process of solving linear equations over the finite field. If time permits, we will see a short demo and hear about an application to counting points on the nodal curve.
