Up the Down Staircase

We describe generic points for linear flows with bounded type slope on the  infinite staircase. As an application we characterize bounded type rotation numbers for which the error terms for Kronicker discrepancy are uniformly distributed. A key step in our proof is the local limit theorem for inhomogeneous Markov chains in the regime of large deviations. Based on a joint work with Omri Sarig.
